Musical storytelling brings to life the fascinating symbiotic relationship between fungi and plants, hidden beneath our feet. The percussion section, with wood and temple blocks, represents the plant/tree, while the flute, with audience humming choir, represents the fungi/mycelium. Commissioned by Musica Viva Australia for Musica Viva in Schools, this piece is a challenging yet accessible performance for advanced musicians. The audience vocal and percussion choirs require no musical background, while the flute part is difficult and the percussion part is medium. With a duration of 4 minutes, this piece by Aawa White and Justin Marshall premiered on April 26, 2022, featuring live and pre-recorded flute loops played back as stereo audio, providing an unforgettable performance for all.
